City of Berkley Mayor Marilyn Stephan, a resident of the city with her husband George since 1957 and Berkley Downtown Development Authority Chairman Alan Semonian join Voices of Detroit to talk about another jewel in southeast Michigan.

Marilyn Stephan Http://BerkleyMich.org 248-658-3300Marilyn Stephan has lived in Berkley since 1957 with her husband George, who has lived in Berkley since 1940. Marilyn was elected Councilmember in November 1999, Mayor in November 2005 and most recently re-elected Mayor in November 2007.
A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, Marilyn taught at Anderson Middle School, Norup Middle School and Berkley High School. Prior to her retirement in 1995, she served as President of the Berkley Education Association for ten years. The Stephans are members of Cana Lutheran Church. Marilyn is also a member of the Michigan Education Association-Retired and member of the Friends of the Berkley Public Library.
As Mayor, Marilyn serves as the chair of all council meetings and is the ceremonial head of government for the city.
Alan Semonian is the chair of the Berkley Downtown Development Authority.
He is the President of Ameritax Plus, a full service accounting and tax service. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Michigan Association of CPAs.
He is also a financial advisor and provides full investment and financial planning services. He holds a Series 7, Series 63, and a Life, Accident, and Health license and is registered in 8 states.
He received a B.A. from Albion College in Economics & Management and has a Masters in Business Admistration from Harvard University.
In addition to serving as chair of the Berkley DDA, he also was appointed by the Governor the Michigan Board of Social Work.
