Everyone has felt the impact of the tough economic times that not only Michigan, but the United States are going through.  Because of that, it is even more important to support non-profit organizations that are helping so many people in need.

Voices of Detroit with Larry Henry and David Benjamin spotlights the work of two of those great organizations in metro Detroit as they chat with Heather Hall the Executive Director of Gilda's Club and Susan Balmas, the Annual Giving Officer of the Judson Center in this show from Goldfish Tea in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Heather Hall Executive Director Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit

Heather Hall

Heather Hall joined Gilda's Club Metro Detroit in January 2009 as the executive director. In this position, she directs daily activities of the nonprofit, including fundraising, business operations, marketing, programming, and corporate relations.

Hall has spoken at cancer advocacy events around the country, presented at young adult survivor workshops and mentored newly diagnosed cancer patients. Her core expertise includes public relations, marketing, community relations, fundraising, event planning and business operations.


Susan Balmas-Annual Giving Officer of the Judson Center

Susan Balmas has spent the last 17 years working in the not for profit sector, recently earning her CFRM (Certificate in Fund Raising Management) from Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy Fund Raising School.

She has helped establish 4 not for profits: 2 community based; 1 small but mighty international; and 1 grassroots national NFP. Balmas has held board and advisory roles in finance and strategic planning for several organizations. She says working in the not for profit sector gives meaning and serves as a wonderful motivator for to going to work everyday! Balmas joined Judson Center last fall.

    I really enjoyed this podcast as Larry said I would earlier. I never realized how much the Gilda's Club did. I just posted where the dates were but I didn't understand how they did.
    Thank you for the great show.They have been helping w/LLS patients. All over our state.
